A small, scented nasal mask is placed over your nose, and you start breathing a precise mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Within just a few minutes, you’ll feel pleasantly relaxed, light, warm, and carefree—many patients describe a mild floating or tingling sensation and reduced awareness of sounds or time passing. You remain fully awake, able to respond, breathe normally, and follow simple instructions throughout the procedure. The level is easily adjusted for your comfort, and because nitrous wears off quickly, you can usually drive yourself home shortly after treatment ends (no lingering grogginess for most people).
